Douglas Krause
As a youngster, Douglas Krause spent his free time each fall hunting squirrels, pheasants, deer, and turkeys in southwest Pennsylvania. There wasn't much opportunity for waterfowling, however, and it wasn't until college that a good friend took Krause on a float trip to jump-shoot mallards.
That was his baptism into the waterfowling tradition, and from then on, Krause considered himself one of the flock.
Krause, 57, is president of Carrington Homes, Inc., a real estate development company that focuses on high-end custom homes in northeast Ohio and invests in industrial properties. Krause also provides consulting services to The Richard E. Jacobs Group, which formerly owned Major League Baseball's Cleveland Indians.
A member for six years and life member since 2013, Krause is passionate about supporting Delta Waterfowl's causes. It was in a goose blind that he first heard of Delta Waterfowl. During a break in the action, a fellow he was hunting with started some small talk regarding a hunting and conservation organization.
"Delta Waterfowl was sold to me as the hunter's organization for waterfowl conservation," Krause said. "It is for guys like us."
Krause has graciously donated properties to Delta Waterfowl, including a North Carolina commercial property with an estimated resale value of $900,000.
His reasoning for such generosity is simple. "Delta Waterfowl is there for hunters," he said. "There is nobody else out there who will work on our behalf to preserve our sport. There are a lot of groups that will preserve wetlands but won't work for hunting. It's absolutely critical that waterfowlers have a voice, and that voice is Delta."- Tyler Shoberg
